More Accent Studies # 2

There are many exercises written for snare drum, and it is up to every drummer to find his or her own method of practicing them. I am not claiming to have "written" all of these exercises, they are simply ones that I have collected from teachers and colleagues, and written myself over the past few years.
These exercises are intended for extension practice to lessons, they are not intended as a "teach yourself" guide as I have provided very little advice on actual hand technique - for this I suggest getting the help of a good teacher!!
Always use a metronome for technique - not only will it help your sense of time, it will serve as a motivational tool to help your practice.
  • Hands should be closed on the sticks to allow wrist rotation.
  • ACCENTED NOTES (should be a full 90 degree stroke).
  • UNACCENTED NOTES (sticks should only lift 2 to 3 inches).
  • Unaccented notes should be very quiet.
